Neschen filmoplast® R – heat-set repair tissue for paper restoration and archiving

Filmoplast® R is an ultra-thin, transparent heat-set repair tissue designed for the repair and conservation of documents, newspapers and delicate papers. The lightweight Japanese tissue (8.5 g/m²) is lignin-free and virtually invisible when applied, preserving the original appearance and character of the paper.

The adhesive, based on a plasticiser-free acrylic copolymer, is activated by heat and forms a durable bond while maintaining flexibility. Filmoplast® R is particularly suitable for applications requiring near-invisible repairs and long-term stabilisation.

Filmoplast® R is removable; applied laminations can be reversed using alcohol, heat or a water bath if required.

Gentle repair and conservation of historic papers

Filmoplast® R is suitable for preserving wood-pulp papers and newspapers dating from the mid-19th century onwards. Tears, losses and fragile areas can be repaired almost invisibly using a heating iron. Fragmented documents can be stabilised by laminating them between two layers of filmoplast® R, restoring them to a complete document. It is also suitable for encapsulating documents, newspapers and other archival materials. Due to its minimal thickness, the flexibility of the paper is retained.

Filmoplast® R is suitable for the professional conservation and repair of:

  • newspapers and wood-pulp papers
  • historical documents and archival materials
  • sheet music, drawings and plans
  • damaged or fragmented paper documents

Application is carried out using a hot laminating machine or a heating iron, ensuring controlled and even bonding.

Reliable adhesion and ageing-resistant properties

Filmoplast® R is slightly alkaline (pH > 7.5) and helps neutralise acids that develop as paper ages. The adhesive contains magnesium carbonate, which neutralises acids formed during the degradation of paper fibres and helps maintain long-term adhesion. The adhesive is colourless, plasticiser-free, non-yellowing and ageing-resistant.

Filmoplast® R offers:

  • very high transparency and minimal thickness
  • reliable adhesion combined with high fold resistance
  • stable bonding even with repeated folding
  • reversible laminations

Tested quality for professional applications

  • Material: Ultra-thin Japanese tissue (8.5 g/m²), transparent, lignin-free

Application instructions

Filmoplast® R is activated by heat and should be applied using a suitable hot laminating machine or heating iron. The sealing temperature should exceed 100 °C. Avoid high humidity during application to ensure optimal results.

Note

Hot Laminating Machine HSM and Heating Iron are not included and can be purchased separately in our webshop.
